Synchronizing None-english iPhones with Google Calendar

Google supports two-way syncing over the internet for iPhone as documented here . I had the following issues, related to language settings and others, that I had a hard time getting around, but once through it works like a charm:

  • "Device Not Supported": When I followed the instructions, I suddenly was faced with a Swedish error message: "Enheten stöds ej" (meening "device not supported"). It was resolved by selecting US English as language on this web page. I had to do it again ata later point in the set-up process, when the "synch" icon did not show up on te web page as expected.
  • Forwarded to my gmail account: I use google apps, so I followed the instructions for apps accounts in order to enable sync of multiple google apps calendars. I did enter my domain, but when logging in to my account (part of the set-up that you do in Safari on iPhone as of instructions by google) I was logged in to my gmail account instead of the apps account I entered. This drove me crazy until I found out that I once upon atime hade associated my apps account with my gmail account on the account settings of my gmail account. Once disconnected, I could proceed according to instructions.
